Welcome to PDX Youth Mentors!

Our primary focus is collecting contacts who are willing to joyfully share their time with young people free of charge. I am considering a separate section for teachers/classes and links for resources, but those would be secondary to our main goal.

We are also looking for help! If you want to contribute, there are two main ways:
1. Become part of the blog team, which means you would have access to adding mentors to the list.
2. Proactively seek out people in the community that would be willing to share their time, and forward the information to me, as outlined below.

For Mentors
please send Lisa a message with:

- Your name

- Your area(s) of interest or expertise

- For each one, would you consider yourself a:
Beginner - Got a new passion you are just starting to explore? Why not do it with a young friend?
Intermediate - Maybe this was your college major, an old job you are not current on, or something you are learning but don't feel like an expert yet. Feel free to include notes about what this level means for you!
Expert - You be the judge. :)

- A way to contact you - this will be public, so you might want to go with just email, but hey, if you are comfortable with a phone number, go for it!

- How much time are you willing to spend per week or month? (Lots of people seem to leave this piece of info out - I am going to set the default at 1hour/week if you don't say otherwise.)

- What part of town are you located in?

- Do you have kids? If so, what are their ages?

- Anything else we need to know....? (Are there only certain ages you feel comfortable working with? Will your own kids be along? Etc....)

Some notes:
This resource is being started by a group of people who practice an unschooling way of life. While we do not want to be exclusive about who can use this site, we do uphold certain beliefs about respectful communication with children. All interactions should be conducted in a spirit of nurturing the interests of the child and following their lead, and if any "issues" arise, solutions should be reached in a collaborative fashion.
